Contraction Timer & Counter

A fast-moving, focused collaboration with an indie developer to refine visuals and successfully launch the app on the App Store - delivered on time and within budget.

Project Brief

Overview

The client - a solo iOS developer - needed final visual assets and support with pre-launch testing for an MVP that tracks contractions. With only seven days until App Store submission, we focused on a clearly defined scope and rapid iteration.

My role: deliver polished visuals to improve App Store presentation and increase likelihood of downloads, and assist in identifying usability issues before release.

Goal

Increase first-time download conversion and user trust.

Role

Solo product designer (visuals, microcopy, hand-off).

Deliverable

App icon, color & type system, UI tweaks, 5 App Store screenshots.

Timeline

May 23-28 2025 (6 days).

  • Soft pastels, organic shapes, nurturing imagery defined the emotional tone.

  • Three iterations to land on a friendly, recognizable baby silhouette with a pregnant mother.

  • Marketing images highlighting core benefits in five concise frames.

  • Testing overall functionalities of the app to ensure readiness for app store submission, and use real test data for the screenshots.

  • Approved in App Store within 48h and a happy client that meets his deadline.

Impact & Learnings

Creating impactful visuals on a tight timeline demonstrated that a clear scope, consistent communication, and targeted user testing can drive meaningful results - faster and more efficiently than striving for endless perfection.

It reinforced the value of smart constraints and close collaboration in delivering high-quality design under pressure.
